Donald Trump Makes History Declining To Say He Will Accept Election Results
In an historic first, a presidential candidate from one of the country’s two major political parties has said he may not accept results of the general election November 8.
Moderator Chris Wallace asked Donald Trump directly if he would accept the results, owing to Trump’s recent rhetoric the election is rigged. Wallace noted Trump’s running mate Mike Pence, and his daughter Ivanka, both said they absolutely would accept the results of this election.
“I will look at it at the time,” Trump said. “What I have seen is so bad. First of all, the media is so dishonest and corrupt and the pile-on is amazing.” The media, he said, has “poisoned the mind of voters.”
If you look at voter rolls, you will see millions of people registered to vote who should not be registered to vote. Let me give you one other thing: She should not be allowed to vote; she’s guilty of serious crime,” Trump blasted Clinton. “She should not be allowed to run and, in that respect I say it’s rigged. She should never have been allowed to run for president, based on what she did with her emails and so many other things.”
Wallace appeared stunned, explaining the peaceful transition of power, no matter how hard-fought an election, calls for the candidate who loses to concede “for the good of the country.”
“What I’m saying, I will tell you at the time. I will keep you in suspense,” Trump said, seeming to bask in the spotlight.
“That’s horrifying,” Clinton interjected. “Every time he thinks things are not going in his direction he says things are rigged against him.” She began to tick off various times Trump did just that, including one year at the Primetime Emmy Awards when he thought his Apprentice reality-TV franchise should have won the series Emmys and tweeted that it was rigged.
“I should have gotten it,” Trump said. Seriously.
Clinton repeated that she is appalled that a nominee for one of the country’s two major political parties would refuse to say he will accept the November 8 voting results.
