Donald Trump booed as he arrives for college football game — and then 'forgets' words to national anthem

Donald Trump was booed by fans as he attended a college football game between the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia.

The president was at the ceremony to make the opening of the college football national championships on Monday.

But fans were left waiting in the rain outside after the Atlanta stadium was locked down for Trump’s arrival.

Boos were heard along with cheers as Trump’s motorcade pulled up to the stadium and then again during the ceremony, when the divisive politician appeared to forget the words to the national anthem.

Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey tweeted that Trump was “both cheered and booed as he strode to midfield for the national anthem”.

Mr Dawsey added that it “sounded like mainly cheers.”

He said that Trump “stood stoic at midfield, hand over heart, mouthing words.”

Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough was caught on a camera yelling “F*** Trump” in a tunnel ahead of the game.

Trump is believed to have left the game after the first half, thereby missing the half-time entertainment from rapper Kendrick Lamar, who is no fan of the president.

Lamar is also an outspoken supporter of former San Francisco 49ers player Colin Kaepernick, who rose to national prominence after taking a knee during the National Anthem.

The act, to protest systemic racism and police brutality, was condemned by Trump, who said the NFL should suspend the player.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he’s fired?’” Trump said in August.

He said fans should boycott any games where players knelt during the anthem.

Before the game, Trump renewed calls for players to sing the national anthem, tweeting: “We want our flag respected – and we want our NATIONAL ANTHEM respected also!”

However, he appeared to have trouble remembering the words himself.
