Donald Trump’s love of fast food is well documented. There’s the image of him tucking into a McDonald’s on his plane and the Diet Coke button kept within reach, placed on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

But new details reveal the lengths he is prepared to go to in order to make sure his burgers are just right.

Or rather, the lengths his aides have to go to.

For when the White House kitchen fails to replicate his beloved quarter-pounder with cheese (no pickles, heavy on the ketchup) and a fried apple pie, he has reportedly been sending out his aide-de-camp for a McDonald’s takeaway.

Until recently the job was carried out by Keith Schiller, a former New York police officer who joined the Trump Organisation as a security officer before working his way to become bodyguard and confidant to Mr Trump, and eventually earning the title of head of Oval Office operations.

Such was his close relationship with Mr Trump that other aides would frequently ask for his help reading the president’s moods or getting a news clipping on to his desk.

When Mr Trump decided to fire James Comey from his position as director of the FBI, it was to Mr Schiller he entrusted the letter.

However, he left the administration in September.

He returned to Washington on Tuesday to testify before a closed session of the House intelligence committee as part of its Russia investigation. His years of proximity to Mr Trump could make him a vital source of information.

But Politico, citing former aides, said one of his most crucial tasks during the campaign was to manage the candidate’s diet, making runs to the McDonald’s near the Marine Air Terminal in Queens, New York, to fetch Egg McMuffins in the morning or two quarter-pounders with large fries later in the day.
