Donald Glover Talks 'Star Wars' Role and 'Atlanta' Success on 'Ellen'

Glover fulfilled a childhood dream by landing role as Lando Calrissian.

Fresh off his casting as Lando Calrissian in the new Star Wars film about Han Solo, Donald Glover stopped by Ellen to discuss what it was like to fulfill his childhood dream.

"It's really crazy. I'm very honored, it's a very big deal," Glover said. "There's this thing going around the internet of me in a Star Wars t-shirt when I was in high school, so it's been a long thing." He added, "That was the first toy I had—Lando. I remember it like it was yesterday, my dad gave it to me. I had a Darth Vader one, too."

He continued to comment on the pressure of following in Billy Dee Williams' large footsteps: "I told my dad immediately and my mom was in the back, like 'don't mess it up' because Billy Dee is, like, hers."

After echoing previous comments that he "wanted to make Twin Peaks with rappers" when creating his hit FX show, Atlanta, Glover added, "I just wanted to show how it was growing up in Atlanta. I always had these weird feelings and was like 'how do I exude that?' We tried to get it. It feels good. It's just weird to be filming it in your home town."
