Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie leaves Giants facility, will be suspended
Oh, and you thought it couldn’t get worse for the 0-5 New York Giants.
The Giants are a car wreck that stopped on the tracks and got hit by a train. This weird season took a really strange and unexpected turn on Wednesday when cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie came to work and then decided to leave. In DRC’s defense, if you were on the Giants you’d consider fleeing the premises too.
And this isn’t some second-hand rumor. Coach Ben McAdoo announced it in his press conference, said Rodgers-Cromartie will be suspended, and the Giants’ Twitter feed reported it.
Coach McAdoo: DRC came in today and decided to leave. We will suspend him. #NYGiants

And if that wasn’t enough, it seems this all stems from an incident between Rodgers-Cromartie and McAdoo during last week’s game, at least according to safety Landon Collins via the Giants media.
Landon Collins said he does not see it as DRC “leaving the team.” Said it was McAdoo’s decision to suspend him after “altercation.”

Landon Collins said it was something between DRC and McAdoo that he believes stemmed from Sunday. He even called it an "altercation."

ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported Rodgers-Cromartie texted her that he would report back to the team on Thursday.
Dan Duggan of NJ Advance Media said Rodgers-Cromartie had conversations with McAdoo and the front office on Tuesday and Wednesday before he left. Rodgers-Cromartie dropped out of last Sunday’s game early with what reporters there said looked like a lower-body injury. Rodgers-Cromartie played only 51.3 percent of the snaps in last Sunday’s game after playing more than 80 percent combined in the first four games combine, according to pro-football-reference.
Rodgers-Cromartie leaving the team facilities comes right after the Giants demoted struggling cornerback Eli Apple in favor of DRC, and Apple wasn’t happy about it. Then apparently Rodgers-Cromartie wasn’t happy with McAdoo either.
According to a report from Art Stapleton of The Record, the DRC-McAdoo argument was over Rodgers-Cromartie not agreeing with his role.
I’m told Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie expressed his displeasure with the coaching staff regarding his existing role, per source. #Giants

DRC expressed desire to play outside, not in slot. Started outside for Eli Apple Sunday, then moved inside as has been case since last year https://t.co/jRHyIzAa0K

Things are going well with the Giants.
You won’t find many content 0-5 teams. But having a veteran leave the team suddenly during the week after a possible “altercation” with the head coach … this season can’t end soon enough for the Giants. There are 12 weeks to go.
