Dominion accepting apps for program allowing Va. customers to sell solar power to company
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Virginia Power is accepting applications for a program that allows customers to sell solar power back to the energy provider.
The Dominion Resources Inc. unit says participation in the pilot program is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is limited to a total of 3 megawatts.
Dominion says participating customers purchase, install and own the solar generation system on their property. The customers then sell the electricity and the associated renewable energy certificates back to the company at a premium rate. Customers will still buy electricity for their homes or businesses at their current rates.
The program is an alternative to Dominion's net metering program in which customers offset their consumption with self-generated renewable energy using a variety of fuel sources.
