Domestic violence incident leaves one dead, one in custody

FENTON, Mo. – A domestic violence incident turned deadly Thursday night in Fenton, according to police.

This was not the first time authorities have been called to the home, either. But this time, the incident left one man dead and another in custody.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy received a call around 6 p.m. for a report of domestic violence in the 800 block of Matthews Drive.

“It’s very disappointing that it ended like this, but sadly, domestic violence tends to,” CJ Heathman, neighbor, said.

According to authorities, Jarvis Person, 39, was allegedly assaulting a 37-year-old woman he was in a relationship with, when a 20-year-old man tried to intervene.

Person was shot once by the 20-year-old.

“The deputy got out and immediately recognized the situation and took the alleged shooter into custody and then went and tried to render some lifesaving aid to the gunshot victim,” Grant Bissell, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said.

Another neighbor tried to perform CPR on Person while police took the 20-year-old into custody.

“He was cooperative with the investigation and right now our detectives are interviewing a number of people involved and also having conversations with the prosecuting attorney’s office with regards to the possibility to any charges,” Bissell said.

As of Thursday afternoon, the man was still in custody at Jefferson County Jail. Charges have not yet been filed.

Neighbors say they’re still shaken up by the escalation of the incident.

“It’s also just a scary situation that I couldn’t be here to help in any sort of way or maybe even deescalate in the best way possible,” Heathman said.

According to neighbors, the 20-year-old is the son of the woman who was the domestic violence victim.
