Former Detroit News columnist Charlie LeDuff has had the domestic violence charge against him dropped.

LeDuff, who was charged following his arrest on Dec. 18 when police responded to a 911 call about a physical altercation at his home, appeared in 45th District Court in Oak Park on Tuesday.

The Detroit News reports that the charge was dropped after LeDuff’s wife, who was the complainant in the case, invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination while on the stand.

Without that testimony, prosecutors were forced to dismiss the case.

A request for comment was sent by the Advance to LeDuff’s attorney, Todd Perkins, but was not returned.

LeDuff pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned Dec. 19 and was released on a $5,000 recognizance bond under condition that he may not have contact with his wife, who Perkins identified at the time identified as the complainant in the case.

Host of the “No BS News Hour” podcast, LeDuff previously worked as a columnist for the Detroit News. He was fired in October after calling Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel a c–t in a social media post.
