Domestic incident leads to indictment of London man

May 22—A London man is in jail, held under $10,000 cash bond from a domestic dispute on Jan. 10.

Mark Steven Alexander Jr., 36, of East 3rd Street in London, was indicted by a Laurel grand jury on Friday for second-degree strangulation, fourth-degree assault and first-degree persistent felony offender.

The indictment states that Alexander put pressure on the victim's throat or neck and impeded the breathing. He then shoved the victim to the ground and into a door frame, causing injury.

The persistent felony offender charge stems from Alexander's decade-long history of felony convictions, beginning with burglary in 2014, trafficking controlled substance in 2017, wanton endangerment and convicted felon in possession of a handgun in 2020. He received a 10-year sentence for both 2020 offenses, which ran at the same time.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, no further violations, and no drug or alcohol usage.

He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on July 17.

An indictment is an accusation only and does not imply guilt or innocence. Persons are considered innocent until proven guilty under state and federal law.
