Domestic duck rescued by Humane Society

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A domestic duck was rescued by the Human Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) after being released into the wild. Domestic ducks do not have the same survival skills as wild ducks, said HSPPR, who posted about the rescue on Tuesday afternoon, May 21.

Humane Society officers were called to the rescue when someone saw an injured Pekin duck swimming in a local pond. Officers Barton and Smith approached the duck and saw that he had a fishing line hanging from his mouth and was missing some feathers on his head and wings. It was clear that the duck was struggling to survive, according to HSPPR.

Once the duck (named Deacon) swam to shore, he was picked up by the officers and brought back to HSPPR for treatment. He has since been adopted and is enjoying life with his new family.

“Let’s all remember that our domestic feathered friends deserve the same love and commitment as our furry ones!” said HSPPR.
