TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Children in Tulare County are getting the opportunity to receive a free book every month until their fifth birthday, due to the partnership of the Tulare County Office of Education and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. New First 5 Tulare County announced the partnership on Wednesday.

According to the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library website, it is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter the family’s income.

The program was first launched in 1995 and at first, books were only distributed to children living in Seview County, Tennesse where Parton grew up. The website says Parton’s home state of Tennessee pledged to pursue statewide coverage in 2004 and global expansion was on the horizon.

In 2023, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partnered with libraries in California.
