CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Two accused MS-13 gang members from Salisbury are among six indicted this week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District Attorney’s Office announced.

26-year-old Salisbury resident Fredy Buruca, who is also known as ‘Machete’ and ‘Piranha,’ and 30-year-old Salisbury resident Juan Estrada, who is also known as ‘Turbo,’ are among four facing racketeering charges. Two additional alleged gang members have been charged with murder in aid of racketeering.

Court records stated that from 2018 through 2022, the gang members were operating in western North Carolina engaging in acts that involved threats, murder, kidnapping, extortion, robbery, and drug trafficking. The purpose was to create a ‘climate of fear’ against rival gang Chavalas.

Among the places where the acts occurred were Charlotte, Kannapolis, Monroe, and Davidson County, records showed.
