DoHS extends SNAP application period due to losses from April storm

CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — SNAP recipients will have a little more time to fill out their applications thanks to mother nature.

Due to the storm that occurred on April 2, 2024, the West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA) is extending the application period for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefit Replacement for some counties.

Storm cleanup continues for Fayette and Nicholas Counties

“During challenging times, we’re here to support our communities affected by the recent storm. Together, we can provide the assistance needed to rebuild and thrive,” said Janie Cole, DoHS Bureau for Family Assistance Commissioner.

The following counties will allow for residents to submit 2024 applications until April 22, 2024:

  • Barbour

  • Boone

  • Brooke

  • Cabell

  • Clay

  • Fayette

  • Hancock

  • Kanawha

  • Lincoln

  • Marshall

  • Mason

  • Nicholas

  • Ohio

  • Putnam

  • Roane

  • Wayne

  • Wetzel

  • Wood

All other counties only have until April 12, 2024 to submit their applications.

Residents who have had a power outage of more than four hours and lost food purchased with SNAP are eligible for benefit replacement.
