Dogwood: A Southern Table will return to Charlotte, joining the uptown restaurant scene

Dogwood: A Southern Table is coming back to Charlotte, targeting a December 2024 opening as part of renovations starting soon at The Westin Charlotte in uptown.

The longtime favorite in the city’s food and beverage circles had closed in August, making way for celebrity chef David Burke’s The Fox & Falcon to move into its SouthPark location. It was open from 2014-2023.

“When we closed Dogwood, we had every hope that the right opportunity would present itself for us to bring back this beloved concept,” Jon Dressler, who owns Rare Roots Hospitality with his wife, Kim, said in a news release.

“We are thrilled to bring both Southern cuisine and hospitality to Uptown Charlotte and become a part of The Westin Charlotte’s beautiful revamp.”

The restaurant is known for taking modern approach to Southern classics with a focus on local seasonal produce. Rare Roots executive chef Scott Hollingsworth will work with Charlotte area farms including Boy & Girl Farm, Harmony Ridge Farms, Urban Gourmet Mushrooms.

Fans can look forward to tasting many of their former favorites, including Duck and Dumplings and bacon jam, but new menu items will be added, too.

The restaurant’s bar menu — well known for showcasing inventive cocktails — will get a makeover in the new space. Bar director Brittany Kellum will create an entirely new cocktail menu to pair with the food and modern, light-filled space.

The new location will have a mix of tables, booths and banquettes to accommodate 140 guests, plus a 36-seat bar.

The revival of Dogwood comes in conjunction with a three-phase, $24 million renovation of The Westin Charlotte that begins this summer.

Square Feet Studio is the architect on the project. Barringer Construction is the general contractor.

“The expertise and reputation of Rare Roots Hospitality will bring the energy and dedication to craft we’ve been looking for to further solidify The Westin Charlotte as the premier hotel, food and beverage destination for Charlotte visitors and locals,” Geoffrey Cousineau, general manager of The Westin Charlotte, said in the release.
