Dog loses weight, gets a second chance at life

Last June, Honey the beagle was dropped off at the Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The 7-year-old dog was severely overweight, tipping the scale at 68 pounds. (A healthy beagle her age weighs around 20 pounds.) Honey’s owner suffered from dementia and couldn’t care for her sweet pet anymore. The animal shelter was asked to put her down, but rescuers refused. Instead, they wanted to help Honey drop the extra weight and get her back to enjoying her best doggie life. Susan Cable, Honey’s new mom, put her on a special workout plan that included hydrotherapy sessions. The adorable animal, who once struggled to climb up the stairs, has shed a whopping 38 pounds. Honey is almost there! She goes on long walks and can even run. Cable tells the Dodo, “She’s like a different dog now. You can just tell how much better she’s feeling.”
