Dog hit by car, wedged into grill survives lengthy ride
TAUNTON, Mass. - Animal welfare authorities say a dog survived an 11-mile (17-kilometre) ride — at speeds of up to 50 miles (80 kilometres) per hour — after it was hit by a car and became wedged under its front grill.
East Providence Animal Control supervisor William Muggle says the dog mix ran in front of the car in Massachusetts on Sept. 20. The driver slammed on the brakes but didn't see the dog and continued driving.
Muggle tells the Taunton Daily Gazette newspaper that another motorist finally pointed out the dog.
Animal control officials freed the dog, which suffered a concussion.
Authorities are now trying to find its owner.
