Dog found shot to death in Dauphin County, man charged

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– A dog was found shot to death by a road in Dauphin County, and a Virginia man has now been charged, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Christopher Chambers, 37, is alleged to have fatally shot his fiancé’s American bulldog multiple times in March 2023 and then disposed of its body by a road, State Police at Harrisburg said in the charges filed.

According to medical records, bullets were found throughout the body of the dog which suffered multiple hemorrhages, blood clots, and broken bones. Cardiovascular and respiratory complications were also indicated.

State Police say on March 18 a Trooper responded to a trailer parked at the Linglestown Road Flying J for a dog bite. Troopers say Chambers was bitten by his fiance’s bulldog after it became aggressive toward their other dogs.

Chambers told State Police he did not want to press charges, but he “strongly encouraged” that the dog be shot by State Police and he “expressed his desire for the death of the dog.”

The woman tried to give the dog up because Chambers would not allow it to ride with them, however, local dog rescues reportedly would not take the pet because of a history of biting.

Two days later, a veterinary assistant found the dog deceased after being shot eight times on the shoulder of N. Fairville Avenue in West Hanover Township.

According to the complaint, the Troopers were sent pictures of the dog and saw that it looked similar to the bulldog that bit Chambers.

Troopers acquired GPS monitoring and surveillance video that put Chambers’ truck in the area where the dog was found.
