Dog abandoned, tied to light pole at York County SPCA

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – The York County SPCA is looking for the person who tied a dog to a light pole and abandoned it outside the SPCA on Tuesday morning.

Employees tried to chase down the vehicle but were unsuccessful. The SPCA says the dog, whom they’ve named Swiss Roll, is “such a sweetie.”

Ring video shared by the SPCA shows someone exiting a dark sedan with the dog, tying it to the light pole, and driving away as the dog attempts to break free.

“This message speaks to the desperation of our community,” said the SPCA, which noted they’re seeing as many as six to eight dogs come in at a time.

Many individuals who are surrendering their animals are citing breed restrictions, housing, and economic challenges, according to the SPCA.

The SPCA also noted that it is illegal to abandon an animal.

The SPCA is located at 3159 N Susquehanna Trail in York.
