King Charles and Love Island host Maya Jama were seen discussing the reality TV programme at Buckingham Palace.

While introducing herself to the King, she said: "I host Love Island, I don’t know if you watch that though. That’s like a reality dating show. That’s what I do.”

The King, seemingly unfamiliar with the show, said: “There’s One Born Every Minute” referencing the soap opera on Channel 4 about the turmoil within a maternity unit.

The two were talking on Wednesday at a creative industries garden party where Jama informed the King that she would soon be travelling to Spain to film the show's newest season and watch "young people snog".

The TV anchor went on to tell the King that she would not violate royal protocol by touching him in the same way that she had in the past.

Recalling her previous encounter with the King, she remarked: "I actually met you before, a long time ago. About something with the Prince’s Trust and I touched you. I wasn’t supposed to. This time I won't," she joked.

"Don't worry about it" the King responded, laughing, to which Jama said, "You don't mind, yeah?".

This exchange between the pair reminded us of one thing, when is Love Island airing this year? Here’s what we know.

When will Love Island 2024 start?

Though ITV hasn't officially announced it, Monday, June 3, 2024 is anticipated to be the opening date of Love Island's summer season.

But why have we arrived to this conclusion?

Let's go back a few years to when Monday, June 4, 2018 was the air date for Love Island 2018. On Monday, June 3, 2019, Love Island 2019 aired. Love Island 2022 and Love Island 2023 had their premiere dates on Monday, June 6 and Monday, June 5, respectively.

And not only is there not a confirmed start date, no cast list has been released yet either.

Currently, there is one name rumoured to be entering the villa this year and that is Gigi Simon. She is the daughter of Lauren Simon, a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother. The 19-year-old is apparently "really keen" to go on the show.
