DOE report says Sandia broke rules in rehiring retired workers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Sandia National Laboratories violated its own rules by rehiring retired workers as consultants at higher rates.

That's according to a report from the Department of Energy's inspector general, which said it was investigating an anonymous complaint.

The report found that Sandia hired former employees as consultants at hourly rates higher than their past salaries, including one former employee who came back as a consultant for 10 years.

The inspector general says no violations of federal policy were found, but Sandia did violate its own internal rules.

The report says it Sandia is revising its policies.
