Dodgers place IF/OF Hernandez on IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed utility player Enrique Hernandez on the 10-day injured list on Monday because of a sprained left hand.

Hernandez, 27, has been bothered by the injury since he was hit in a fourth-inning at-bat against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.

Hernandez is hitting .238 with a .309 on-base percentage, 16 home runs and 52 RBIs. In nine games since the All-Star break, he is hitting .400 with two homers and two doubles.

Defensively, he has mostly played second base but has also seen time at first base, shortstop and at all three outfield spots.

Over his career, Hernandez has played every position except catcher.

The Dodgers also optioned right-handed pitcher Jamie Schultz to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

To fill those active roster spots, Los Angeles activated utility player Kristopher Negron, whom the Dodgers acquired in a trade Sunday with the Seattle Mariners, and recalled left-handed pitcher Josh Sborz.

Negron, 33, appeared in 10 games for the Mariners this year, batting .217 with one RBI in 25 at-bats. In 82 games with Triple-A Tacoma, he batted .310 with 12 homers and 61 RBIs.
