Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker received some advice from a former co-star ahead of her appearance on Celebrity Bake Off.

The actor will show off her baking skills in the show's upcoming Stand Up To Cancer 2024 specials, where she'll face off against the likes of EastEnders star Danny Dyer and former Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse.

But she might have an upper hand going into the iconic tent, having received some advice from her former Doctor Who co-star John Bishop, who appeared on Celebrity Bake Off in 2021.

When asked if she had managed to get some tips from anyone, Whittaker told RadioTimes: "Yes, I rang John Bishop, who said he had a great time on it. And also, I remember him smashing the bowl, so I thought: 'I can't do much worse.'"

Whittaker played Doctor Who's Thirteenth timelord from 2017 until stepping down in 2022, while Bishop played her companion Dan Lewis.

Other celebrities hoping to impress the Bake Off judges include Heartstopper's Joe Locke, Taskmaster stars Fern Brady and Munya Chawawa, This Morning's Dermot O'Leary and Spice Girl Mel B.

Yinka Bokinni, who will also take part, recently said the show's co-host Alison Hammond was a pleasure to be around during filming.

"It was a very warm, wholesome time. Alison – it was her first celeb season. She'd just finished the regular season. It was her first celeb season, and she's wonderful," the radio presenter told Digital Spy.

"Prue [Leith] and Paul [Hollywood] are so lovely, and they're so kind – and I was a little bit nervous. So I think coming off the back of it, I'm just really glad I had the experience with the other people in the tent, too."

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer will air on Channel 4 on March 17.
