It’s official – Tom Baker is heading to the galaxy far, far away.

During Star Wars Celebration Europe, it was announced that ‘Doctor Who’ legend Tom Baker would be joining the cast of ‘Star Wars Rebels’… and he even gets to use the Force.

‘Star Wars Rebels’ director Dave Filoni revealed that Tom Baker would play a new character called Bendu – described as neither Light nor Dark Side, but a ‘middle ground’ for the Force.

“He’s something else’ said Filoni of the character. “A force of nature.”

And apparently, Baker was the first and only choice for the role.

“He’s so unique in everything he does,” said Filoni about the 82-year-old actor. And with a glimpse of Bendu in the official ‘Star Wars Rebels’ trailer, it looks as though Tom Baker is the perfect choice for the role.

Of course, the character’s name is no coincidence… and once again, ‘Star Wars Rebels’ leans on its notable roots. ‘Bendu’ was originally part of the term ‘Jedi Bendu’ which used in those original George Lucas scripts in the 1970s.

But what about Tom Baker’s character?

It looks as though he’s set to take an important role in the next season of ‘Star Wars Rebels’ with the enormous, hulking Force being doling out help and advice to Jedi Knight, Kanan.

“He’s a different kind of Force character/creature than we’ve had before,” said Filoni. He added that Bendu will make a ‘big difference’ to ‘Star Wars Rebels’.
