Doctor Who fans applaud "sensational" villain played by Drag Race's Jinkx Monsoon

The all-new series of Doctor Who premiered on BBC One with a double episode this evening (May 11), and Jinkx Monsoon's supervillain Maestro made quite an impression during 'The Devil's Chord'.
In the second of the two instalments, which took Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Time Lord and his companion Ruby Sunday (played by Millie Gibson) back to 1963 just before Beatlemania, RuPaul's Drag Race star Jinkx rather creepily announced themselves by crawling out from the inside of a piano.
Some sort of music-eating demigod, Maestro proceeded to suck the musicality from a piano teacher and his pupil, leaving just their clothes and shoes behind. It was later explained that they wanted to topple the universal balance by stealing musical expression, creating nuclear winter in the process.

As Jinkx's flamboyant performance played out, social media users were quick to heap praise on the drag artist.
"What an entrance! Take a bow Jinkx Monsoon," tweeted one Doctor Who watcher, before two more added: "Jinkx is sensational; a classic #DoctorWho villain" and "Jinkx Monsoon as a villain is just incredible. I hope she comes back!!"
A fourth person even compared Jinkx's villain to The Little Mermaid's Ursula, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Agatha Harkness, and Hocus Pocus witch Winnie Sanderson "all rolled up into one and turned up to 11".

Speaking about her evil character earlier this week, Jinkx reflected: "The thing I love about a villain is that they can't think they're doing something wrong, or if they do think they're doing something wrong, it's justified because it's for something greater that they've planned.
"What I love about Maestro is that while objectively evil, they are an artist, they have a mission statement. And that was really lovely to play."
