Eastwood HS math teacher arrested, charged with improper relationship with student

Ryan Anthony Avalos, 33, who was employed at the time by the Ysleta Independent School District at Eastwood High School, engaged in “sexual contact” and “sexual intercourse” multiple times on different dates on or about November and December 2023 with an 18-year-old student, according to court documents.

According to court documents, a statement was obtained with the student. She stated that early November, Avalos asked her for another way to communicate outside of the school email and they began communicating via social media.

Court documents state that in at least three times, Avalos and the student “ditched” work and school to meet and have sex in his truck at Cielo Vista Park and The Fountains in East El Paso, in which one of those times they also smoked “THC vape.”

As we have previously reported, an El Paso police school resource officer was contacted by school officials in January and was advised about the victim having a relationship with Avalos.

Upon the investigation, Avalos was interviewed by the Ysleta ISD Chief Human Capital Management Officer on Tuesday, Jan. 30, where he confessed he had a sexual relationship with the student for about a month, according to court documents.

Ysleta ISD confirmed that Avalos is a former math teacher at Eastwood, and he hasn’t been employed by the district since Jan. 30.

Additionally, Avalos was booked into the El Paso County Jail Friday, March 1 on a $100,000 bond. He posted bond that same day.
