Dobyns-Bennett Athletic Training staff receives national safety award

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – Kingsport City Schools announced on Friday that Dobyns-Bennett High School (DBHS) is the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Safe Sports School Award, which will be valid until 2026.

According to a news release from the school district, the award proves that the DBHS Athletic Training staff values quality treatment, safety and injury prevention for its student-athletes.

“We are honored to receive this award, but the focus needs to be directly on Head Athletic Trainer Kevin Trivette and Assistant Athletic Trainer Bri Hippenstiel,” Frankie DeBusk, Dobyns-Bennett High School Athletic Director, stated in the release. “They continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for all DBHS student-athletes.”

DeBusk recognized the honor does not come without hard work.

“This award is very prestigious, and having the best Athletic Training staff in the State of Tennessee makes this award special as we can recognize Kevin and Bri for the countless hours they spend with our students,” said DeBusk.

“The health and safety of student-athletes are critical as it has both immediate and long-term effects,” said NATA President Kathy Dieringer, EdD, LAT, ATC. “The National Athletic Trainers’ Association created the ‘Safe Sports School Award’ to recognize and champion schools nationwide that are committed to safety in sports.”
