Philadelphia was the scene of political assemblies long before the Continental Congress issued the Declaration of Independence in 1776. In modern times, the city has played host to eight major party conventions since 1856.

With the backdrop of the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Yahoo News’s Summer Delaney spoke with delegates and tourists visiting Independence Mall to discuss unity in the Democratic Party and what the Founding Fathers would make of the 2016 presidential race.
