In its latest ad, the Democratic National Committee is latching onto the pro-contraception zeitgeist within its party by dinging Mitt Romney on his Planned Parenthood stance. "Planned Parenthood, we're going to get rid of that," says Romney against an ominous soundtrack in the the 30-second spot titled "A Mitt Romney proposal for cutting the budget."  In case the point isn't made, the candidate's comment repeats three times.

One thing the ad makes clear to us: Democrats are going head-to-head with the GOP candidates in the contraceptive debate. Probably because they know it's an issue they handily beat Republicans on. "Americans overwhelmingly regard the debate over President Barack Obama’s policy on employer-provided contraceptive coverage as a matter of women’s health, not religious freedom, rejecting Republicans’ rationale for opposing the rule," reports a Bloomberg poll today. "More than three-quarters say the topic shouldn’t even be a part of the U.S. political debate."
