The festival of lights, Diwali or Deepavali is the biggest festival of India and is celebrated over a span of a week in the waning fortnight of the month of Kartik as it draws to an end as per the Hindu calendar. Diwali, as a matter of fact, falls on the last day of the dark fortnight, or amavasya, to commemorate the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, which culminates in the slaying of the 10-headed Ravana, the demon king of Lanka who had kidnapped Sita, the wife of Lord Rama. This year Diwali falls on October 19, 2017. People decorate their homes with diyas and candles just like the kingdom of Ayodhya had been decorated to welcome their beloved Lord Rama. People perform Laxmi Puja for wealth and also worship Goddess Sarawati for wisdom.

Diwali festival is also celebrated with great pomp and ceremony in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Singapore. It is the most important festival for Hindus, marking the beginning of their new year, and people celebrate it by bursting firecrackers all night. The significance of the festival is the victory of good over evil, and of knowledge over ignorance. Diwali festival is preceded by Narak Chaturdashi (or Kali Chaturdashi) and Dhanteras, which fall one and two days before Diwali respectively. On the other hand, Diwali festival period culminates in Labh Panchami, when the shops and businesses which were closed on account of Diwali re-open. You can buy the Shree Yantra to win the special grace of Divine forces.
