Distillery, closed for decades, being reopened by descendants in Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A distillery that began operating in western Kentucky more than 100 years ago and closed in the middle of the 20th century is reopening in downtown Louisville.
Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. will be reopened by next spring by the original owner's great-grandson, Corky Taylor, and Taylor's son, Carson.
Louisville commerce officials announced the project, which will include the company's own bottling line. The company plans to bottle and sell a "moonshine" product initially and eventually produce a 4-year-old bourbon and a premium, small-batch bourbon called "Henry Kraver," named for Taylor's great-grandfather.
A news release announcing the plan said the company is being privately financed by the Taylor family and is expected to create five to 10 jobs in its first year.
