Dispersal order to target Kent town centre disorder
A dispersal order is in place in Tunbridge Wells to help tackle and deter anti-social behaviour.
The order, which covers the town centre and St John’s area, came into effect on Friday and will remain in place until 23:59 BST on Saturday.
Kent Police said it has been implemented after “repeated reports a group of young people have been acting anti-socially” in recent weeks.
Insp Christian Mayers said: “Allegations have included under-age street drinking, and reports of children throwing items at members of the public and being verbally aggressive.”
The dispersal order grants police officers additional powers to ask anyone causing a nuisance to move on, and arrest anyone returning to the area once dispersed.
Insp Mayers said: “We are concerned about the detrimental impact on the quality of life of the community as a result of the behaviour and are increasing visible policing in response.”
