Sherriff: Pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by a driver Wednesday in Warrick County

A vehicle struck and injured a 90-year-old man in Warrick County Wednesday afternoon, leaving him with serious injuries that required surgery, a law enforcement official said.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Indiana 68 and Sawmill Road at 4:44 p.m., according to Warrick County Central Dispatch. A helicopter took the man to a local hospital, a dispatch supervisor told the Courier & Press.

The incident initially shut down traffic along Indiana 68. According to Warrick County Sheriff Mike Wilder, the driver of the vehicle promptly dialed 911 to report that he had struck the man, whom Wilder said was a local farmer.

As of Thursday afternoon, no charges had been filed against the driver, and the sheriff's office was still working to determine if "speed was a factor," Wilder said.
