Dillard's Clearance again announces closing

Jul. 27—The Dillard's Clearance Store in the East Hills Shopping Center will be closing Aug. 27, according to a message on the store's phone line.

The message also said all merchandise in the store is an extra 40% off the lowest ticketed price and all sales are final with no returns allowed.

Dillard's Clearance announced in April that the store was expected to close after the roof of the store was damaged in March due to a tornado, but a statement released in May then said it would remain open after all.

Tammie Hardy was upset when the latest news of the store closing broke, and she wonders what will happen to the mall.

"(I'm) disappointed, because they have good deals and I feel like once Dillard's goes, I'm a little worried about the mall in general," Hardy said. "I think you'd have to get another anchor or a lot of smaller stores that people want to come to."

Theresa Lee Morris has been an avid shopper at Dillard's Clearance, and she's now worried about the lack of similar stores in the area.

"I was really excited when I heard they were going to stay open, and now I'm sad that they're closing," Morris said. "We really don't have any apparel stores that have really nice dresses for like weddings and things like that with the deals they have. I just feel like we just have to go to Kansas City to find something that, you know, he could wear to, you know, an event or anything."

According to statista.com, as of Jan. 29, there were a total of 280 Dillard's Inc. stores across the United States, but a handful of those stores have closed this year.

Local mall and Dillard's employees declined to comment on the closing, referring questions to their corporate offices. Corporate officials did not respond Wednesday.
