Did any Saints get snubbed from NFL Top 100 Players of 2016?

NFL Network finished up its “Top 100 Players of 2016” countdown last week, and only two New Orleans Saints made the list.

Drew Brees came in at number 30, while Cameron Jordan was 99th. The rankings are based on player votes, and you can make a case that Brees and Jordan were at the right place, or could have been higher or lower.

I personally don’t have a problem with any of their rankings, as Brees is always overlooked. But that’s not my business (Insert Kermit the Frog meme here.)

There are a large number of NFL stars, and it’s amazing to think so many elite talents were left off of the list. So did any Saints get omitted when they should have been on here without a question? Uh, yeah…

Perhaps you’re familiar with the name of Brandin Cooks. Oh yeah, the guy who finished 14th in receiving yards with 1,138. He also had 84 catches and nine touchdowns. He faced Josh Norman and Desmond Trufant twice each.

Sammy Watkins found his name on the list (96th overall,) even though he was 22nd in receiving with 1,047 yards along with 60 catches for nine touchdowns. Hm, I do think Cooks stats were much better.

Even Jeremy Maclin (93rd,) was on the list. He only had 1,088 yards on 87 catches and eight touchdowns. Allen Hurns (89th,) had 1,031 yards on 64 catches and 10 touchdowns. Again, superior stats for Cooks by a mile.

Julian Edelman (87th,) missed half of the regular season with a broken foot, and wasn’t top-40 in receiving. With all due respect to the slot receiver, there’s no way he was better than Cooks last season.

Alright, my rant is over.

Cooks should have been in the top 85. Period, end of story. Taking all of the stats into account betwen him and the aforementioned receivers who earned spots over him, I rest my case.
