Did a Russian Lawmaker's Deleted Tweet Just Reveal Snowden's Next Move?

A leading Russian lawmaker might have just accidentally revealed Edward Snowden's intention to seek asylum in Venezuela.

On Twitter, Alexei Pushkov, the chairman of the foreign-affairs committee in the Duma, tweeted that Snowden had accepted Venezuela's offer of political asylum:

Here's a rough Google translation, courtesy of Mashable's Alex Fitzpatrick: "As expected, Snowden has agreed to offer Maduro (Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan president) for political asylum. Apparently, this option seemed the most reliable Snowden."

Within moments of the tweet, the Associated Press and Agence France-Presse had both picked it up. And just as quickly, Pushkov deleted the post.

Two days ago, Pushkov publicly urged Snowden to accept Venezuela's offer. But now the lawmaker appears to have jumped the gun in telegraphing Snowden's course of action.
