Did Ivanka Trump Just Officially Abandon the Feminist Cause?

The presidential daughter and adviser has deleted “passionate advocate for the education and empowerment of women and girls” from her Twitter profile.

It’s been clear for quite some time now that Ivanka Trump was not to be the great feminist savior of the Trump White House, but, over the weekend, it appears that she made it official. At some point, likely while thousands of women across the country took to the streets for the second annual Women’s March, Trump deleted “passionate advocate for the education and empowerment of women and girls” from her Twitter profile. It now contains the requisite “wife, mother, sister, daughter” and describes her in more generic, less female-focused terms as “advisor to POTUS on job creation and economic empowerment, workforce development, and entrepreneurship.” Note that in this latest edit, Trump also removed “entrepreneur” from her Twitter profile because, oh yeah, she’s not supposed to be profiting from her father’s presidency, don’t mind the brand-new Ivanka Trump store that just happened to open last month in Trump Tower.

How intriguing that Trump chose to click “edit profile” now, a year into her father’s administration and umpteen assaults on women’s rights later. After she stood by, complicit, while her father and boss rolled back equal pay protections and access to free birth control, moved to defund Planned Parenthood, tried to ban the trans community (including trans women) from the military, bullied women like Mika Brzezinski and Kirsten Gillibrand on Twitter, and dispatched press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to say the more than 12 women accusing him of sexual harassment and misconduct are lying—among many other offenses. All the while, her Twitter bio announced her as a “passionate advocate for the education and empowerment of women and girls.”

Perhaps Trump is finally getting real and admitting the truth to herself. Or, her dad or one of his cronies demanded she remove that woman nonsense from her Twitter profile, lest she be conflated with those pussy hat–wearing marchers who just won’t give it up. On that count, the Trump administration has nothing to worry about: At this point, Ivanka could never be confused with someone who actually cares about supporting women. We gave up on her long ago. Maybe she’s finally giving up, too.
