DICE Teases 'Battlefield 1' They Shall Not Pass Expansion

Developer DICE has released some concept art and new information for its first expansion to “Battlefield 1.” The DLC expansion is called They Shall Not Pass and will be released sometime in March of next year.

They Shall Not Pass will come with all-new maps, weapons and even a new playable French Army team. The “Battlefield 1” DLC expansion will mainly focus on the Battle of Verdun which took place in the north-eastern part of France between the French and German armies.

“The initial fighting around Verdun quickly transformed villages like Samogneux and entire forests into shadows of their former self. Verdun turned into the longest battle of the war lasting 9 months which completely transformed it. We wanted our players to be part of these initial intense attacks in the cold February of 1916,” DICE explained in its blog post.

DICE said that the concept art that it released was how they envision how the new maps will look and feel when it’s finally released. It gives everyone a look at the new outdoor environment as well as Fort Vaux, the underground bunker that DICE describes as a “maze of dark galleries” where the fighting forces fought with grenades, flamethrowers and poison gasses.

DICE also teased that there will be new maps based on the Battle of Soissons that will feature massive French tank assaults on a battlefield torn by artillery attacks. The developer said that the battle will center on key bridges over the Aisne River and the village of Fismes. DICE appeared to be teasing a behemoth type of vehicle as well, according to Games Radar.

They Shall Not Pass will also come with 20 new weapons, 14 new Superior Battlepacks and new Dog Tags. “Battlefield 1” players who have the $50 Premium Pass will get the expansion two weeks earlier than everyone else, just like with the other three upcoming expansions. The upcoming DLC expansion still doesn’t have an exact release date.
