Here are the top 3 stories in Dallas today:

  1. Like many areas of the country, Dallas-Fort Worth has seen a steady rise in home prices over the last two years, and experts say that's not going to change in 2022. While economists are calling for smaller year-over-year home price gains in the year ahead, sale prices are expected to continue rising in the new year as the North Texas market sees low inventory and high demand. Over the last five years, area home prices have risen about 50 percent. (Free: Newsbreak; Subscription: Denton Record Chronicle)

  2. Dallas ISD recently announced plans to expand its pre-kindergarten program to include babies and toddlers. The Start Strong Dallas program does not yet have an official timeline but is expected to include the development of language and social skills. According to the school district, most of a child’s brain develops before they turn 5 years old, and many children already have learning gaps by the time they arrive in Dallas ISD’s existing pre-K program. 3. For the ninth holiday season in a row, the Give a Leg Up Foundation traveled across Dallas handing out donations of clothes, shoes, bags, and more to local residents in need. Don Kaye, a local sporting goods store owner, loaded up his truck and stopped at several parking lots with his family to hand out the donated goods. "It's good to show [my family] how to give back to people," said Kaye, who started the Foundation to carry on this holiday giving tradition. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
