Dez Bryant said he sliced finger cutting carrots in 'extremely minor' injury

Athletes cutting their hands open is such a weird, unexpected 2016 development, even if it’s been happening for years in sports. Just not as typically often as this year, we assume.

Back in August, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reportedly cut his hand with scissors (doing who knows what) prior to a preseason game against the Chicago Bears and was sent home.

On Monday, Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer had to leave his start in the ALCS after 2/3 of an inning after a cut opened on his hand — a cut that was blamed on repairing his drone. So yeah, this year has been weird for a lot of reasons, and this just adds to the list.

Now here’s the latest bloody hand story from the NFL — and it’s a doozy:

Hey, Michael Jordan once gashed his finger using a cigar cutter, and Derrick Rose impaled himself with a knife he used to carve an apple. What’s with Chicago Bulls guards and sharp objects?

But there are worse stories. Heck, former Toronto Maple Leafs backup goalie Glenn Healey sliced his hand open cleaning his bagpipes (requiring 40 stiches!). That’s just flat-out weird.

So by comparison, Bryant’s injury feels rather domestic — and the kind of thing that could happen to any of us. Spare us the he-should-have-a-private-chef-cutting-those-carrots nonsense, please.

Allrecipes.com lists 1,496 soup recipes with carrots in the ingredients, so we’re not exactly sure what Dez was cooking up (but we’re always open to dinner invitations).

And as long as this doesn’t delay his return to the field, which it sounds like it won’t, then Bryant’s injury sounds like a pretty funny, harmless deal. But one we couldn’t help but dangle out there once we heard what happened.

It’s the Patriots, and everyone else: Week 6 recap
