When it comes to classic NFL rivalries, Saints-Falcons in highly underrated.

Surely it’s because the two teams pale in comparison when it comes to the championship pedigree of more heralded rivalries like Packers-Bears, Steelers-Ravens, Cowboys-49ers and, well, pretty much the entire NFC East.

But both teams have been around for a long time and have fanbases that, excuse the cliché, plain don’t like each other.

They have also both experienced recent success, and it’s fun to watch the bad blood simmer to the surface. Like this gem of a Twitter troll-job Falcons running back Devonta Freeman delivered after Atlanta linebacker Deion Jones ripped the Saints’ hearts out with a late-game interception of Drew Brees in the end zone Thursday night.

Freeman deleted the post shortly after putting it up, but, as we all know, the Internet doesn’t forget, mainly thanks to screen grabs.

At first, we wondered why he deleted it. It just seemed like some generally good-natured trash talk with a rival team. But since then, we’ve learned things may have been a little more heated than we first thought, thanks to an in-game gesture from Saints coach Sean Payton.

We’re all looking forward to when these teams meet again in two weeks in a game that might decide the NFC South champion.
