New development in Africatown will not be the last, officials say

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The Africatown Redevelopment Corporation’s mission to preserve the town’s history, revitalize housing, and attract and develop commerce is coming along as a new home was just built.

According to a Facebook post, the new development by Selwonk Enterprises, LLC, “represents the first new construction in the Africatown Historic District in a very long time.”

The new development, shown in the post is a single-story home with tan siding and a dark-colored roof.

“We are extremely proud of the work that our team is doing in the Africatown community,” the post said.

Officials with the Africatown Redevelopment Corp. said this development will not be the last to come to the area.
