Detectives arrest ‘person of interest’ in deadly stabbing last month in Old North Sacramento

Officers and detectives last week arrested a man considered a “person of interest” in the investigation of a deadly stabbing last month in Old North Sacramento.

Detectives had identified the 30-year-old man as a person of interest in the homicide investigation and found him Thursday, the Sacramento Police Department announced Monday in an update to the case.

The man wanted for questioning in the homicide case was arrested on unrelated warrants, including felony charges of being a felon in possession of a gun and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, along with a misdemeanor charge of possessing drug paraphernalia Sacramento County Jail records show.

The arrested man also faces a new charge of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. He remained in custody Monday at the jail, where he was being held without bail.

Police said detectives have submitted the homicide case to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office to review and determine whether to file criminal charges related to the fatal stabbing.

The stabbing was reported about 4:20 p.m. after a fight broke out between at least two men near Traction Avenue and Colfax Street. The stabbing occurred near the overpass spanning Colfax Street near Sacramento Northern Bike Trail, according to police.

Officers arrived and found one man with life-threatening stab wounds. Police said officers began performing life-saving measures and called for medics to respond. Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office on Monday confirmed that Cesar Osberto Lopez-Rodas, 31, was the man killed in last month’s stabbing.

The officers found another man with injuries not considered life-threatening who was hospitalized.
