New details revealed in Scappoose double homicide

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The person who faces charges for an alleged double murder in Scappoose Sunday night was identified as 45-year-old Larry Holland Jr.

This information comes from court documents associated with Holland’s arraignment Monday.

According to a probable cause affidavit in Columbia County, Holland faces two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

According to Scappoose police, officers responded to the area of Southwest Linden Street and Southwest Sequoia Street Sunday night where they secured the scene of the double homicide. Officials said they arrested a suspect who was taken into custody at the scene.

At roughly 9:58 p.m., Scappoose police responded to reports of an assault with a weapon, according to the affidavit, citing testimony from law enforcement officials. One 911 caller said he’d been stabbed, “possibly in the neck.” The caller mentioned “someone being locked in the garage.”

Police arrived at the scene at about 10:04 p.m. Within minutes, officers contacted a man, later identified as Holland, who was exiting the residence. Holland, who was not wearing a shirt, reportedly said something along the lines of “take me to f—— jail,” court documents said.

Police entered the home and found two people with stab wounds, including one man who was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman still had a kitchen knife inserted to the hilt in her chest. She gave officers her first name but then died while being transported to a local hospital. The court documents indicated the 911 caller who had reported being stabbed in the neck had survived and was later taken to a hospital for treatment.

A woman who was in a second story room in the house also told a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy that she’d witnessed Holland stab both of the now-dead victims on the porch. The woman, who was trying to hide in the house with her daughter, said she didn’t witness the third person being stabbed.

Upon being arrested, Holland was seen with his hands covered in blood. He also reportedly had an injury to his right eye, was actively bleeding and had an injury to one of his hands. He was transported to a hospital under the supervision of a Scappoose police officer.

The 911 caller also spoke to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy while he was recovering at the hospital, saying he had been stabbed in the living room of the home, allegedly by Holland, by what looked like a “prison shank” from his back pocket. The victim escaped into the garage, which Holland allegedly locked, and called 911 while blood was “dripping from his body.”

Deputies said there was a previous 911 call about a domestic violence dispute at about 9:53 p.m. that same night and in the same area by a separate caller. It is believed this was related to the incident as the caller mentioned an intoxicated man who was yelling, later believed to be Holland, and someone honking the horn of a GMC SUV, believed to be Holland’s white 2006 Sierra 1500 truck, for an hour straight. The second 911 call, from the stabbing victim himself, was received while law enforcement were already en route to the area from the first call, court documents said.
