New details released in deadly plane crash at Ingalls Field Airport

UPDATE: 3/11 at 11:04 A.M. BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The FAA and NTSB have launched an investigation after five people died in a plane crash at the Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County on Sunday afternoon.

The Virginia State Police have confirmed that a twin-engine IAI Astra 1125 originated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was scheduled to land at Ingalls Field Airport.

The victims have been taken to the Virginia Office of Medical Examiner, Western District for a positive identification. Their names will not be released until their family has been notified.

According to the plane owner’s attorney and family friend, the passengers were attending an event at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va. State police said the Pilot and first officer were both men and the three passengers were a man, a woman, and a male child.

UPDATE: 7:15 P.M. BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– In new details provided by Virginia State Police, it’s been learned that five people have died in the plane crash at the Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County.

According to VSP, the identities of the victims are currently unknown; however, it’s believed that one is a small child between the ages of five and seven. Police also believe the remaining victims were a first officer, a pilot, and two passengers.

No survivors have been reported found.

VSP says the plane fell short of the runway, went through a few trees, hit the hillside, and caught fire. They cannot confirm if the wind had any impact on this incident.

The investigation into what caused the plane to come to the airport’s runway and what the emergency was is still ongoing. However, they reported the plane had contacted the Washington Center before the events occurred.

Law enforcement has shut down the airport and is investigating the scene.

BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Officials report four people are dead after the plane crash at the Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County

According to Chairman of the Bath County Airport Authority Jeff Ford, a twin jet had to make an emergency landing. Authorities do not know what the emergency was at this time and say the jet did not belong to the airport.

Airport authorities tell WFXR emergency management crews are currently on the scene.

BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia State Police say a plane has reportedly crashed at the Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County.

Although details remain limited, VSP says the crash occurred at around 3:00 p.m. and officers are currently en route to the scene.

Officials with the Ingalls Field Airport told WFXR News that they are currently assessing the scene.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, all north and south lanes are closed on Rt. 703 near the airport.
