Derek Jeter will not be attending Marlins games at Yankee Stadium

Derek Jeter knows the New York media will turn any perceived slight against their city into a controversy, so the former Yankee captain went for a pre-emptive strike.

The current Marlins CEO made it clear on Saturday that he will not be returning to Yankee Stadium when Miami visits New York in April. Jeter told The Michael Key Show it’ll be too awkward for him to make the trip.

It might feel uncomfortable for Jeter to waltz back into The Bronx with another team, but does he really think fans, or anyone else for that matter, will mind?

Let’s recap: A 14-time all-star, Jeter spent his entire career with the Yankees, winning Rookie of the Year, five World Series titles, World Series MVP and had his number retired just about the moment he hung up his cleats. After his career was finished, he bought a talent-laden franchise, flipped its best player, Giancarlo Stanton, to the Yanks for pennies on the dollar and helped ensure that New York would remain a powerhouse in the American League East for the foreseeable future.

If he feels awkward walking back into Yankee Stadium after all of that, just imagine how he’s going to feel watching games at Marlins Park after trading away every decent player the team had.

Hopefully, somehow, someway, Jeter will find the courage to visit Yankee Stadium again and receive the standing ovation the crowd will surely give him.

It is truly the least New York can do for all Jeter has given it since moving on from his playing days.
