Deputy coroner: Brooks County man drowns

May 15—QUITMAN — A Brooks County man died from drowning Tuesday, a county official said.

Lee James Peak, 57, died of accidental drowning, said Brad Carter, Brooks County deputy coroner.

He had lived at his sister's house on Barwick Road and went missing around 12:30 p.m., Carter said.

The family called 911 around 1:30 p.m, Carter said. Brooks County first responders turned out, then called for a dive team from Lowndes County; Peak was found in a small pond in the home's back yard, the deputy coroner said.

"He had some medical issues," Carter said. No autopsy is planned.
