Deputies: Man broke in, sexually assaulted children

FAWN RIVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 25-year-old Sturgis man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and sexually assaulting two girls, deputies said.

On March 20, deputies with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the Sweet Lake Manufactured Housing & Camping Resort Community, located at 31004 US-12 off of E Chicago Road, after receiving reports of a home invasion.

During the investigation, deputies learned that two girls under the age of 13 were sexually assaulted.

The sheriff’s office said that video surveillance of the vehicle that was suspected to be involved was found, and deputies identified the suspect as a 25-year-old Sturgis man, who had taken off before being questioned.

The Sturgis man was tracked to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

The man is facing charges of one count of home invasion first degree and two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree (person under the age of 13). He is being held on an immigration detainer.

The case remains under investigation.
