Deputies: Man arrested after 2-car crash in Grand Haven

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a man was arrested early Friday morning after a two-car crash in Grand Haven.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 12:15 a.m. on southbound US-31 at the intersection of Hayes Street.

A car, driven by an 18-year-old Grand Haven man, stopped at the blinking red light and tried to cross US-31 when it was struck by a southbound vehicle, according to a news release.

The 18-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were trapped inside the car, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, a 26-year-old Twin Lake man, and a passenger, a 25-year-old Muskegon man, the release said. They were all pulled from cars.

The 26-year-old man tried to run away from the scene but was arrested after a short foot chase, according to the sheriff’s office.

The injuries are not considered life-threatening, the release said.

Southbound US-31 was closed for about one hour as authorities investigated and worked to clear the scene. It has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
