Deputies: Cows rescued from dairy farm near Coopersville

POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are thanking residents who helped rescue cows from a burning building at a dairy farm near Coopersville.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at a dairy farm on 56th Avenue between Cleveland and Roosevelt streets in Polkton Township, north of Coopersville.

A fire broke out inside a large building with cows inside. When deputies arrived, the farm’s owner, employees, firefighters, and area residents were helping to rescue the cows, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The sheriff’s office said some cows died but did not have an exact number. A News 8 crew at the scene saw several dead cows on the property.

The sheriff’s office thanked the residents who helped on the scene.
