Denverites respond to Iranian attack on Israel

DENVER (KDVR) — Hundreds of missiles and drones were launched into Israel from Iran in the overnight hours of Sunday.

“A few days ago, the Israelis were able to assassinate a head of a terrorist part of the Iranian regime, and in retaliation today, the Iranians… sent hundreds of drones and hundreds of missiles into Israel,” said Boaz Meir, international development director for the World Zionist Village at the Jewish National Fund.

He now lives in Denver but was born in Israel.

“I have a son that lives in Israel and I have a brother, and we have many friends,” Meir said.

Not only does he have friends and family, but he also knows of many colleagues and 35 high school students studying abroad in Israel as the attack happened.

“We contacted each other, we contacted also our people in Israel, make sure that they’re okay. Make sure that they know that we can take care of them,” Meir said.

He reported those he spoke with are safe for now, taking refuge in shelters, sealed rooms in their apartments or resilience centers.

While Meir said he is used to hearing of new attacks, this one was different.

“The attack by Iran today is a whole new dimension,” he said.

Now, local government officials have stated their support.

This includes Attorney General Phil Weiser, U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, U.S. Rep. Jason Crow and Senator Michael Bennet, among others.

“I know that Iran has said that you know, for now this is it, but we know that that’s not it,” he said. “It’s very important to feel safe and it’s good to know that we have friends.”
